Today is Valentine's Day. I was so happy to celebrate it my love hubby.
Then I was wondering how do they celebrate Valentine's Day in Japan...hubby told me that his co-workers (women) gave him some chocolates and biscuits. hmm...as far as I know this day is mostly for couples or maybe to our loved ones and why only women giving to men? So then I asked hubby and do some reseach about it...
Now I know....
In Japan, it is only the women who give presents to men. The presents are usually chocolates. It seems that the Japanese women are too shy to express their love, so this day will be a best opportunity for women to express their feelings to their loved ones.
Men on the other hand are supposed to return gifts to women on a day called "White Day" which is exactly a month after Valentine's Day on 14th March..this White Day is a Japanese creation day.
In Japan, women give chocolates not only to their loved ones, but also to men such as their bosses, colleagues or male friends that they dont have any romantic interest in. The chocolates to other than their loved ones is called "Giri-Choko" which means obligation chocolate...this is for the purpose of friendship or gratitude. The chocolates to the loved ones is called "Honmei-Choko".
In Japan, sending a Valentine's cards is not common and the phrase "Happy Valentines" is not widely used as the phrases such as "Happy Birthday" and "Happy New Year".
Hmmm...this is how the Japanese celebrates their Valentine's Day. So, I have to buy some chocolates to return to my hubby's colleagues next month. I'm a chocolates freak actually...I will by some for me tooo....Happy Valentine's Day! I LOVE YOU MY HUBBY!
